Preconvention committees met on Saturday, March 3, at Center for Families. News and announcements from the preconvention committees is listed below.

NOMINATIONS

If you would like to be considered for a leadership position within the DFL Senate District 59 local party unit, please arrange an interview during one of the screenings with the Nominations Committee on March 24, from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and March 25, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Folwell Park (located at 1615 Dowling Ave. N., Minneapolis, MN). The following positions will need to be filled:

1 senate district chair
1 senate distict associate chair
1 senate district secretary
1 senate district treasurer
1 senate district affirmative action officer
11 senate district directors
6 state central committee members
8 state central committee alternates
2 delegates to the Fifth Congressional District central committee
2 alternates to the Fifth Congressional District central committee

There are a number of candidates seeking the DFL endorsement to represent legislative seats in the new MN Senate District 59 (formerly known as MN Senate District 58), which now covers North Minneapolis, Bryn Mawr, and parts of downtown. 2012 Elections: Senate District Convention Scheduled for March 31

The state senate district convention is scheduled for March 31 at Patrick Henry High School (Please note that the date has changed from April 14 to March 31). Registration starts at 8:30 AM; the convention will convene at 9:30 AM. Delegates may check-in anytime during the day. A proposed agenda with the order of business will be posted once it is approved by the preconvention rules committee. At the senate district convention, delegates will choose candidates to endorse for public office and choose candidates to elect to party positions. Preconvention committees will be having their initial meeting on March 3, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, at the Center for Families, 3333 4th St. N, Mpls. These committees include: Arrangements, Constitution, Credentials, Nominations, Resolutions, and Rules. Conveners for each committee are listed below.

2012 Elections: New Senate District 59

New district boundaries and senate district identification numbers were released on Feb. 21, 2012. The state senate district covering North Minneapolis and parts of downtown will be now known as MN State Senate District 59. The new senate district 59 map can be viewed here. New statewide legislative maps can be viewed here.

The most noticeable change was with the state house districts. The A-side picked up the following precincts from the B-side (ward/precinct): 3-8, 3-9, parts of 5-1, 5-2, parts of 5-8, 5-10. The B-side picked up the following precints: parts of 7-9, 7-10, parts of 7-1.

Who wants to represent North Minneapolis in the Minnesota Legislature? Watch the candidate forums above. Forums took place at the end of January for candidates seeking Minnesota legislative seats representing North Minneapolis in 2012. All candidates seeking the DFL endorsement were invited to participate. *Please note that the new district identifications have changed to Senate District 59, House District 59A, and House District 59B (The videos will show 59 instead of 58 because these were the district IDs at the time of the forums.)

Welcome! Each one of us has the responsibility to educate, motivate and activate to keep up the momentum of getting more DFL friends engaged and active in the party.

This year, Senate District 59 DFL is working more closely with the Fifth Congressional District and our City units to ensure that we are reaching out to our precinct leaders, DFL family members and friends to keep them involved in DFL activities.

The Senate District 59 DFL is comprised of all volunteers and we do rely on people like you to help us carry the Party’s message to our neighbors and friends who reside in our district. Without an on-the-ground commitment from dedicated volunteers working during the campaign seasons, it would be impossible for us to achieve our goals for a better district and a better Minnesota!
